Best tip I have is keep reading this site :)

I've learned so much it is crazy.

agreed 100%

also, learn to use the search function on the forum or you will learn to hate it due to all of the jerks that will ruin your thread by telling you to search.

Thankfully i knew that coming into this forum, so i try not to post repetitive questions. lol.

I live in Murphy, go to school in Richardson, and work in Plano. Just started photography, so I'm still learning a lot. Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

In the equipment section ... there can be a little feed back on not using search.

But in the picture sharing section is a good place to hang out.
Post pictures and you will get direct feed back.

Around POTN - reading material that is often suggested in 'Understanding Exposure' for any experience level. But great for beginners.

It answers more than this is 'a f stop' and this is a shutter speed.
It dives into the 'why / when / how'.
-Why do i chose f8 on a shoot when i can select f4 thru f16 (example)
-if i am shooting a lake/shore shot w/ some clouds at sun set - how do i meter correctly?

It is a big softcover book. I actually read it last year and keep it for reference.
I have been shooting pictures since the film days and picked up digital in the last 3 years.
I learned a couple of new techniques and reinforced others. good stuff.....

And Welcome to POTN.

Look forward to seeing you around.....

Later,
_Mark

Thanks for the advice. I have been doing a lot of reading in the various forums and found lots of tutorials to keep me busy for a while.

I got my camera about 2 weeks ago, but I've been practicing a lot. Here are some of the pictures I've been taking if you guys want to take a look.

North Dallas here!

I've owned a few canon p&s cameras, and used my dad's original digital rebel numerous times. An XSi will be arriving tomorrow from the man in the brown truck, so I hope to be posting a lot very soon!

VGP,
nice shot.... interesting perspective/composition.
This could be a jpeg conversion thing...
I notice a little noise in the image. I downloaded and processed thru Noiseware.
It cleaned up nicely, mainly the sky.

Later,
_Mark
