Hey everyone. I took these photos at church last week and I'm going to be shooting this Sunday during the choir worship time. The lighting is dim but with the Christmas lights it's a little brighter. I used the 50 1.8mm at I think iso 800. Any suggestions? I have a sigma 28-80 3.5-5.6 and a Sigma 100-300 4-5.6 and a Speedlite 420 ex. I think the flash will be annoying. Is there a way to use flash dimly or will a higher iso work okay without flash. The choir will be moving around so I'm concerned about unwanted blur. Also, do I need to get up close (like almost on stage)? Thanks for the feedback. (I'm not sure how to post the pics larger; sorry).

Which camera are you using?

Looks like you'll want to use the 50mm f/1.8 lens... And bump up your ISO to over 1000...around ISO 1600 should do it for ya.

ISO 1600 and using the 50 1.8 would surely do the job if you are able to get close enough. If you can't get close enough you may want to try one of the zooms, keep iso at 1600 and just try to time your pictures at moments when there is less movement.

I agree not to use flash, it would be annoying and depending on how far you away you are it probably wouldn't help at all.

And you may want to add your camera model to your gear list in your autosignature.

I'm using the Canon EOS 20D. Thanks for your reply.

Wow, just realized I left the camera model out of my signature! Thanks for the heads-up and the feedback.

Hey, I just wanted to update you on the church shoot. It turned out better than I expected. The nifty-fifty was the right choice for me as it allowed me to get all the shots I wanted and they turned out well. I used iso 800-1600 and that covered it. Here are a few shots. Any comments are welcome.
