Hi guys,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I just wanted to share something that I know other people have come across too. I was recently doing some research on lens prices and came across what seemed like too low of a price for the 24-105mm f/4L on soniccameras.com. I thought it might be a scam, but didn't see anything on resellerratings.com. I also just read somebody else asking about this site on a different thread.

I did a little more searching on soniccameras.com today and found this. I thought I'd share:

I always check a site by either looking on reserllerratings, or (most often) just googling it. Like "sonic cameras scam" and something will come up. I did a lot of looking around on sites that had cheap deals on the XSi before realizing that you aren't going to beat the prices on Amazon and B&H.

I remember sonic cameras coming up too. It's depressing that scam sites like this are so frequent to pop up. I wonder how many people have been taken advantage of.

Take a look again, it's all there:

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Interesting link. Thanks for that.

I've changed the topic heading for this thread to help when people want to search for Sonic Cameras.

Thanks! I somehow missed it, but I'll admit it was my first time trying to look up a seller on that site.

Pete: Thank you for that!

I've been perusing the www the past month or so, looking for an UWA, and clicked on Sonic Cameras, which comes up as a sponsored link with a Google search.

I was shocked to see they were offering a deal unlike any I've seen anywhere on the 10-22. $479 and free shipping for a supposedly new lens.

Good thing I checked here, or I may have been tempted to give them a call.

Too good to be true? Then it usually is.

There are a TON of these outfits working out of Brooklyn. Also a lot of the internet reseller scam sites are run by the same goups of people. They're usually quite clever and avoid prosecution by:

1. Selling you the camera body separate from the accessories and warranty that is supposed to come with it in the box.

2. Once you place your order they contact you to upsell other items ar very high prices. If you don't buy the extras they'll then call you to say the item is out of stock.

3. Post accessories on their site at tremendously high prices. I once say a 1 GB CF card for close to a grand.

4. When a manufacturer has, say, two versions of a lens, both the same focal length range and f-stop performance, they post the cheap one but with the price of the expensive lens (just a bit cheaper than B&H), then make the description a bit unclear with the hope you'll be fooled.

5. They'll make no mention that the camera or lens is grey market.

... and so on, and so on

A fellow named Don Wiss has this site showing the storefronts of all the camera shops in Brooklyn:

http://donwiss.com/pictures/brooklynstores/ (external link)

and here's Sonic Cameras :)

http://donwiss.com …/brooklynstores/h0005.htm (external link)

I also like how he's now added a link to the ones that moved out of Brooklyn ... to New Jersey.
