I have been offered a 1D mkiiN that has banding issues at high ISO is this fixable and do you think it will cost much if it is.

The banding is fixable by Canon as I've read in past posts. Some have had the sensor replaced and the A2 circuit board replaced? I don't know how much it would cost. You might want to call canon for a quote. It's a common problem in the 1D MKII and N models so they might have an estimate all ready.

Good luck on getting a quote over the phone! I called today about my IIN and they would not even give me a ballpark figure. The guy said send it in and they will look at it for free. Then give you a estimate.

He wouldn't even get me a quote on a sensor cleaning.

Wow, in Australa, they charge you just to even look at it. Once again, us Aussies get royally screwed over by Canon it seems.

That's a shame, but good to know. Thanks for the info.

Actually I would encourage you to call to see if they will give you a quote. Maybe the guy I talked to was a jerk. Didn't sound like it but. He definitely wanted to help, he stated his hands were tied.

You ship your camera, they give you a quote to fix it. If you decline the work they still ship it back to you for free.

Another thing he stated was, you send it in for a sensor cleaning and they find something else, the repair is a all or nothing deal. You can't say I don't care that this part is going to fail just clean the sensor. He stated they would not do that.

Am I reading this correctly,

I'd like an oil change on my car. They find some other issue is due for repair.

No sir, the oil change cannot be done without purchasing the suggested repairs ?

That is what he told me. The sensor cleaning was just an example. But if you have a stuck CF card and them found your shuttle was failing they would require BOTH to be fixed or nothing. That's as per my phone conversation this morning. If someone else has had a different experience I'd like to hear it.

Ooh let me guess...around 25K actuations @ £699 by any chance?.

MK2N's with no issues are going for 1200-1300 at the moment, so if the repair brings the total in under that price you might be on to a winner.

Someones been looking at the same place as me and had the same thoughts.
I have two 1Dmkii's but the thought of being able to write raw to one card and jpegs to the other appeals.

Nope. I personally wouldn't buy it but I check that site every few days to see what they get in.
My Sigma 500 prime and EF 85 f1.8 came from there and they are very honest with their descriptions. If anything they tend to overstate things like "signs of use" and dust in lenses etc.

Yes I agree, I bought a lens from them and the description was a little bit hard on it.

Haha. I saw that one too. Was going to offer him £500.
I've bought a 40D and grip from Matt and both were top condition. He's a nice bloke, just won Sussex Young Business Entrepeneur of the Year.
What's the high ISO image quality like on a 2N @ ISO3200? Or even pushed one stop? Useable?
Thanks
Mike
