Spotted this Dragonfly around the side of the house, scared it off accidently. Managed to see where it landed (aroun 9' up a tree with lots of branches). What does me do? I get my dad's wooden step ladder, which has one leg shorter than the other by a few mm and thus wobbles. I mount it on the moist ground, which is on a slope. Here's me on the 3rd rung, trying to gently get branches out of the way, keep my balance, and not topple over on said step ladder ;-)a Well, only managed a few decent shots, not great since they are from below the Dragonfly, and not above, and have the legs in the way of the face :( Still, sharpest shots of a Dragonfly to date for me. Not bad, since I also took the first shot (and obviously the crop) at 1/160 on the Sigma 150mm on a 1D Mark IIn body (i.e. heavy combo). hehehe. If there's a way, I'll usually find it :-) Onto the piccies...

Not a bad conversion Mark, I sill prefer my effort, I think it's more closer to what I saw. :)

Thanks for the effort though - out of curiousity, what did you do?

Thanks guys.

Toby - not quite that much climbing - just a step ladder! I'm scared of heights and get vertigo quite easily, so doing what Alain did is not my cuppa tea. I really wish I could have had more control over these images compositionally etc, oh well...

edit: and yes, there was a breeze yesterday, which made it hard to get shots as well...I'm really surprised I nailed these 2 shots given the circumstances. Just call me a stubborn ole bugger!

Good ones Dave - I've tried shooting from an unstable ladder- not easy :)

Seem to be lacking in contrast slightly ?

Thanks guys - Brian, I might re-work this shot with a bit more contrast.

I agree they could do with a little more contrast. Beautiful shots.
Extra points for the circus act. :)

Thanks Greg & Dave. Yup, the things we do. Thankfully I didn't fall a$$ over head lol. At least I got a half decent sharp shot, never been 100% happy with the sharpness of any of my previous DF shots. Now, if only I can get the lighting right, and a better angle and the closeup without having to crop ;-)a I don't want much, do I? lol...
