Ok, I know there are lots of threads already. I can't seem to find anything about which way to go if your lens is front or back focusing.
IE: front focus you use + settings, back focus you use - settings, or doesn't it work that way? I will be getting to use my new 50D today and was just going to mess with the MA.

Um... Hi

Mmmm, I wouldn't 'mess' with it unless you need to :D

From memory the '-' will 'pull back' the point of focus toward you, so if you are front focusing you will need the '+' to 'push' the point of focus away from you - Hope that makes sense.

.......of course I may have that the wrong way round...

Easiest way is to 'play' with one lens and see what happens. But as i say, unless you think one of your lenses has a problem I'd leave alone.

I had to adjust my 70-200 Sigma a fair bit (-6), and my 24-105L by a whisker (+1).

Thanks for the reply, I will only be trying it on my 85 1.8 which back focused a bit. I'm hoping to make just a slight adjustment to bring it around. I will be shooting High School wrestling today and would like to use that lens.

Yep, I just got my 50D also and both my lenses required + adjustment (they were front focusing). My 400 only +2 but my 17-55 needed +12. It is easy to do and I could see what adjustment was required on that fantastic LCD. Those two features alone are worth the price of admission, to me. I can't wait to see how well the Image Quality holds up with cropping (I crop 90% of my photos).

Page 180 of the manual is pretty clear as is the menu itself. - moves the focus forward and + moves the focus back.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Are you trying to focus your 20D? It does not have the feature.
