Building night shot for class

I shot this last night to print to turn in for a photo class assignment.

even though I think B&N is the evil empire (akin to walmart), I like this shot....good job
I see a blurred body in the foreground.

What are the shot details? Lens/shutter speed/ apeture

And smeared brake lights in the parking lot. I shot about 30-35 diff. shots and all but about 5 had a car streaking through. Very busy parking lot.

This is just north (15 miles approx.) of Fort Worth, Texas. We had a little sleet and a tiny bit of snow Monday. But it has been in the 70's the last three days. I love it!

If its not too late for your assignment.

I'd choose a place with much more traffic (i.e. a nice bridge or busy highway), just for the shear amount of moving lights that will be available to really emphasize the long exposure). And another plus is that it may be a lot more interesting than a shot of a bookstore at night.

It's just fine the way it is.

Well the assignment is a Building at night. I understand what you're saying though. It is a pretty static image, but it fits the assignment. And besides I love bookstores second to camera stores!

I like the photo a lot. The lights on the top of the building really help to separate the building from the dark night sky

Cool shot! Should do well in class

I feel it stands very nicely on it's own.

While the ghost and the brake lights are a slight drawback, it still looks very nice.

It's not a dumb question. I did use a tripod. The exposure was 3 long seconds. That's why it was so hard to get a people/car free shot. I used the tripod because I used a small aperture for more depth of field and low ISO to cut the noise in the underexposed areas. It might have been blurred even if I had used 1/50 sec.

I would have used a tripod on this shot even if not needed for the exposure because I repeated the shot at several different apertures and wanted exactly the same framing to compare the differences.
