Hey guys,

I just got me a used Tamron 28-75. It seems pretty ok to me. It still has 3 years more on the warranty but somehow the previous owner has already wrote down on the warrant card.
So, I was wandering can I still send it to Tamron with the warranty if I got problem with the lens in the near future. Does Tamron really need some identifications if you sending lens to calibrate. Hope someone can tell me more abut this.
Thanks

I believe the warranty is only good for the original owner - you are most likely out of luck. Treat it well to make sure it doesn't get hurt:-)

I just talked to Tamron about the same thing and the warranty DOES NOT transfer. So unfortunately you are SOL, its not too bad for the repair costs about $190

Tamron, at least in Canada, only wants a copy of the sales receipt for warranty work. If there is no name on it... you're ok... if there is a name...then you are John Smith, are you not ? ;-)a

btw... I think non transferable warranties should be against the law.

But since it is totally up to the manuf. to give a warranty or not and to decide for how long, don't they also have the right to determine the conditions of the warranty? You can protest by not buying their products I guess.

I believe there is Consumer Protection legislation that forces warranties onto manufacturers but in most, not all, jurisdictions they are not forced to offer it as non transferable. It's one way they get around, what they feel is a liability they would rather not have to live it. I'm sure many would not offer any warranties if they could get away with it. So, laws need to be changed.

If you think about it, there is no legitimate reason for them to limit it to the original owner.

Regardless, I have no remorse in getting around what I see is their way of trying to screw me by negatively affecting my ability to sell or buy an item.
