i have just upgraded from a xti to 40d. Every time i switch to camera on i have to press the info button to get the display setting up or if i press play to look at picts i have todo the same. Also it does not seem to have sensor to switch lcd off when taking picture.

On my xti i didnt have to press any buttons as the display screen was on all the time,am i missing something here?

The 40D has a little low power LCD on top that gives you all the information you need. This is so it's not using vast amounts of power running the main LCD permanently so it can use that power to run 6.5fps shutter motors. It's also off by default because it's a more advanced body that is more likely to be used by advanced amateurs and professionals who don't want the light from the LCD to scare off wildlife etc.

You can set the main LCD to come on and show you a shot you just took in the setting somewhere but, this is off by default. I have no idea where you turn it on as I never would but it's there somewhere I think.

It doesn't have a sensor to turn off the screen when you press your face to it for the above reasons.
