If you had only $1000 to spend on your lens collection, what would you buy?

I was thinking of general shooting, friends and family (portraits), landscapes, vacation, etc. I have an XSI so I was thinking Sigma 30mm, 85mm, and a cheap general zoom.

EF-S 10-22, EF-S 18-55 IS, EF-S 55-250 IS, and if there is any money left, 50 F/1.8.

Kind regards, Wim

hmmm..... add an 85 1.8 and that looks like my setup, if i was to do it again though i would go for the 50 1.4 or the sigma 30 1.4, although the 50 1.8 is good, focus is inconsistant.

The tamron has proven to be an awesome lens for the price, that and the canon i would definately buy again, however the 50 1.8 just doesnt cut it anymore, to be honest i got the 50 1.8 as an upgrade from the 18-55 kit, so it was a HUGE improvement over that, but now i have the 70-200 and an 85 1.8 and it shows how poor the focus is, up until then i was managing ok with it. The 50 1.8 is sharp, but focus really is poor in lower light. Below is a image with the crop next to it, razor sharp. Not bad for an £75 lens

If I went the prime route that's how I'd spend the money. If I went the zoom route I'd have to do something like the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 + 70-200 F/4 (non-IS)

Buy used and you could get them all for under 1k.

I think this is the correct answer. Besides, if you buy used these lenses are going to retain their value pretty well so when you want to upgrade you can without losing much.

Lol ED. But I would suggest skipping the 50mm 1.8 and saving for the 85mm 1.8. But the Nifty has made me a pretty good paper weight .
