I finally really tested my Tamron 28-75.

Conclusions:
I have no focusing issue at 75mm but front focus at 28mm; the OOF bokeh looks "lopsided" on the focus test; the blur is heavier on one side than the other. I have a bokeh artifact (in fact, I'd already seen this several times in the past!) as well, looks like a hair or something... rather disappointed!

What do you all think? Send it in, or sell it?
EDIT: By bottom heavy, I mean, the line is still visible but the blur is "upwards" from the line. Bokeh's supposed to be a uniform blur, right?

The OOF area around the target is not symmetrical, front to back. About 1/3 in front, 2/3 in back. And OOF highlights at the edge of images will not be round necessarily. Have you seen problems in your pictures? Not sure you bought it to do rulers. Yes, sell it to me for $10.

Oh no, I'm trying to point out the "streak" in the middle of the bokeh (these are at the center of the image, too!). That's shown up in some of my pictures and looks really "distracting" to say the least.

You're right about the DOF being 1/3 in front, and 2/3 behind, but the problem is at 28mm, the focusing point is about 10cm in front of where it should be, at 1.1m. The 28mm focus chart (right part of the focus test picture) is completely in the "behind" part of the DOF.

No, it varies from lens to lens. Only some really good lenses give you anything close to truly uniform blur. I don't know what causes that 'streak' though, or if it's normal for the Tamron 28-75.

Right, I noticed the bokeh on my other lenses is typically "ringy" (bright on the outside) or "corey" (bright on the inside), typically one when the object closer than the focal plane, and the other when the object is past the focal plane. That's typically due to correction for spherical aberration (http://www.vanwalree.com/optics/spherical.html (external link) and http://www.vanwalree.com/optics/bokeh.html (external link)). The streak looks completely anomalous.
