If it isn't taped to a gun, you should be ok. Take only pictures, leave only footprints...

on the serious note, discs are not like memory cards, they are more sensitive to the scanners themselves, but not to say they will fail after being taken through a scanner. Discs are permanent forms of backup/storage/mediums, so therefore won't succumb to the daily grind of life
