40d+cs3+camera raw 4.4.1 = confusion

i have never done any raw editing before, even though i knew about it, i guess i just didnt really understand the huge advantage it can be to my photography.

SO!

i found knowledge explaining i needed to update my camera raw plugin, i went into bridge, updates, and download and installed 4.4.1 . once finished i checked to make sure it was listed under plugins and correctly installed before dragging in a cr2 from iphoto, only to find, big surprise, its still opening as a jpg. i went back into bridge but it wont let me click the updates link anymore, im assuming this means i have all of them, i think i may have read somewhere that the newest raw update that works for cs3 is 4.5? if this is true, do i need this before i can FINALLY work with raw, what steps do i take to download it if yes.

if no, what is wrong? and why is this so much hassle?


i made sure to search the forum for any useful information, and i used as much as a could, but my problem still goes unresolved.

The latest for CS3 is 4.6, but 4.4.1 should work with the 40D.

In that case, you are probably dragging a jpg from iPhoto.

You need a Raw. (Extension CR2)

Why are you using iphoto? I use Bridge to import, browse and open my raw files from 40d and CS3.

thats what i started doing at it works, but what about all of my stuff in iphoto, is it just lost in the sauce?
