Just received my Cleon 8 and am very impressed with the look, feel and quality of the pieces. However I only tried it once on my 50D, while shooting a sunrise on a bitter cold morning. It goes through the focus and shoot OK, but when the button is half pressed for focussing the metering indicator lights all over the place can't seem to settle and lock on anything.

Before I try it again, I'd like to canvass other users of this combination to see if anyone ele is having this issue on the 50D. Could it be the environment (temperature), my subject, my technique or possibly a defective unit?

Try not shooting a sunrise with it's rapidly changing light and see what you get.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Have you, by any chance, transferred AF off the shutter release button? If you have, your remote release will behave just the same as your shutter button does.

Jon. I'm reasonably new with this camera so I'm not sure I follow what you mean.

I'm currently using the camera with the shutter button as is.

As bohdank suggested, try shooting something other than a sunrise. The scene may just be such low contrast that your camera was having trouble focusing. And set the camera to One Shot AF if it isn't already.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try some different things and lenses this morning. It is cloudy and snow covered, but still very cold. I'll update this thread.
