I'm looking for a decent monopod for birding that won't break the bank. I like the monopod solution because of the mobility it gives me, so ease of use is a must (before you say it, I already do have a good tripod solution).
After reading Michael Reichman's review of the Manfrotto 685B on the luminous landscape, I was intrigued - this looks like the monopod I've been waiting for all along! I LOVE the way this monopod operates, it's so fast and I've always liked pistol grips.
So would I be making a mistake in going for the 685B + 234RC head? Or should I just go for it? Any better options? I won't have anything heavier than the 5D + grip + 400 5.6L mounted, so it's definitely strong enough.
