Ok so i know alot of these have a small blur. Its due to not having a 2.8F lens and the game was in a dome. So anyways let me know what ya think of them.

Perfect reason to get 400 f/2.8 IS lens. :) As for all the pic, soft, fuzzy, out of focus, crop to too tight, need to work on composition. :)

You're shooting at 400 iso, if you're having trouble w/motion blur bring the iso up, shoot in raw, slightly underexpose it to increase shutter speed and bring the exposure back up in pp. I saw you were shooting w/an xt and at times at 75mm? High five on sideline access! :D But who knows, just my thoughts. I've never shot sidelines in a dome before lol, what do i know?

edit: wait, you're on like the 1st row aren't you? Stand shooting?

Nice pics! It's always hard to get shots in the dome. Many of my friends were there. STL represent! :)

Ya i am fricker 4 over there. I am the 49ers fan that went to all 16 games last year.

i was only on the sidelines before the game. I had seats in the 2nd row on the 20 yd line.

Jackflash were you at the game?? thats the 4th time i have been on an NFL field. It seems like Dr York always lets me on fields with domes its like WTF man!!! I been on atlanta dome, New Orleans Superdome, Rams and then i was on the field home game vs bengals last year.

its mainly just he knows me after seeing me at all the games last year. and i get there right when the stadium opens. If your a 49ers fan at an away game. I suggest getting there right when it opens. He is really cool and tends to take care of his fans.

And as far as camera settings ya.... I think my prob is i still just use the Sports Mode on the XT. hehe i am still learning i will eventually get to manual shooting.

I will be in SF this weekend for the last game of the year. I have made it to 11 games this year.

I also bought a Canon XSI and workin on getting that F2.8L 70-200 Lens. So things only have an upside :)

You've shot lots of images, I can see, but they look like 'snaps' to me rather than 'sports' photos. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but you'll need to do a bit more reading and practicing to get yourself to an even higher level.

It's not the quality of the subject that makes a good sports image but the quality of the image itself, whether it's peewee soccer or NFL football.

That said, an experience like yours should give you some great motivation and impetus to really get out there and make yourself even better. Keep shooting! :)

ya man there is no harsh words there only great advice. I'm good with criticism. I still have a lot to learn ill be the first to admit it. there is really only so much u can do from the stands tho. I feel a few of my images out of the 1000s are sports worthy do u not??
I appreciate your thoughts maybe you can give me some pointers. my love for photography started just last yr and this is my first yr with a slr. plus its hard cuz I fly to go watch these games as well as take pictures.

Ditch the sports mode (in fact ditch everything from P on down on the dial).

In an NFL dome the light is generally good and well controlled. You should be shooting in Manual.

You need a shutter speed of at least 1/500th to control motion blur. Yes, you will get noise at ISO 1600, but that sure beats motion blur (and there are several programs to help process noise to manageable levels.)

If I recall correctly, the dome in StL is around 1/800th ISO 800 f2.8.

ok mpeters, i will note that, one of the main problems is my lens i have is 4/5.4 but i just fixed that problem.

I just bought a Canon 2.8L 70-200 on ebay for 850. Now i just gotta find nfl stadiums that will let me take it in. I guess first chance ill use it at is the Pro Bowl!!
