Please help me.....I am a newbie when it comes to post processing......I am wanting to blend these two photos. I want to superimpose the flag above the soldier. I have been playing around with CS3 and cannot figure out how to do this. I know that it is possible. I have Kelby's book but for some reason I cant find anything on this. Thanks in advance!

Select flag using magnetic lasso, copy, paste onto other image. Right click in layers palette, convert to smart object. Resize as desired. See attachment one.

To have it behind him just resize then add a layer mask, select a black brush and paint him - big strokes so you can see him, don't be accurate go way over the edges. Then grab a white brush and paint the flag back.

Total time it took me is about 2 minutes, that's why it looks like a 3 year old did it ;)

The young man is shot pretty well but I would suggest getting another flag. here is what I did with what you have

I'm not sure what your going for here; however, when I do composting I usually try and make it as believable as possible. That said a flagpole would not be located right up against a building. Perhaps try putting the soldier twenty feet or so in front of the building and then placing the flagpole between the soldier and building.

In case you didn't notice, you left his right ear grey.

The horizontal line running along the wall (at his eye level) is very distracting. You might want to clone it out.
