Well right now the battery is charging, im kinda fiddlin around with the camera getting the hang of the feel and doing some MF and comparing it with my 400D (wow huge difference!)

I was debating about pulling off my potn strap from my rebel and attaching it to the 50D, but I think Ill wait it out and use the canon strap till I decide which route I will take. I found that I wore the 400D around my shoulder more than my neck and the canon strap is miles ahead of the potn strap in that use, but things may change with this body.

First off I was wondering what all CFn do you guys change? Im mostly curious to the SET and FUNC buttons in particular as well as My Menu and C1/C2. I need some ideas to go off of since so much is different.

Will I need CFn4 with the AF on button? I never used it on my rebel since the button was located so close to my face, but now that its farther away it seems like it may be viable.

I just took my first few shots with it. I gotta say the sound was unique, definately nothing like my rebel.

The shutter button feels way different tho. its like 1/3 press for focus, then another 1/3 press to feel like im at 1/2 press then I barely move my finger and it takes the shot. Anyone elses feel like this?

I changed CFn so the SET button is now image replay CFnIV-3-4
I changed so joystick (i.e. multicontroller) lets me change AF point to use.
AF is Center focus; I use "partial metering" as well.
Show focus point, highlights, and histogram in image replay mode

AF-ON is left as is, so it does auto-focus. The question is NOT about this button, but what you do with the shutter button. Some sports shooters REMOVE auto-focussing from the shutter-button. They don't move it to the back on a 40D or 50D because it is already on the back.

::Raises hand:: I do, I have the * button control focus, and the shutter-button only controls the shutter for me. I have a 40D. I find it is sooo much easier this way. At first, I hated it, but now I can't imagine shooting any other way.

With a 40D, the functions of the AF-ON and * buttons can be swapped which you have apparently done. They are still on the back of the camera.

That does NOT mean that you cannot focus with the shutter button UNLESS:

You set a custom function to REMOVE focussing from the shutter button.

So on a 40D, by default you can start auto-focus BOTH with the shutter-button and the AF-ON button (or * button if you've swapped AF-ON and *) on the back.

Unfortunately, there is lots of confusion on this forum because many Canon bodies do NOT have an AF-ON button on the back.

Hmm Ill have to mess around with it some more. So far Im loving everything, tho its a bit hard to break the habit of looking at the back of the LCD for settings.

I just got done messing with the micro adjustment settings since the shots from my 50 didnt seem right. Ended up needing a total of +9 on it. Just for the hell of it I tried out my kit lens, which I always thought was soft at the wide end, turns out that a -5 makes that lens pretty sharp, even wide open. I was very suprised. The 24-70 is spot on, and looks quite a bit sharper than it does on my 400D which I think is more to focus accuracy rather than back or front focus. It backfocused here and there when the light was low, and would front focus more in better lighting. Still I was able to get some sharp shots out of it.
