I just received the Opteka battery grip with two batteries for my 350d. The batteries are generic and not canon. Its working amazing for its 80 dollar price tag. Has anyone else had any experience with this item?

I don't think there are any 'negative' reviews on here. The only difference I can see side by side(I ended up going OEM for both my 400D and 40D) is the buttons and overall feel of the OEM just feel better.

The reviews on the Opteka (and other 3rd party grips) have been mixed. Some people have gotten one that worked perfectly and others have had problems.

Personally, I have always gotten the Canon ones for my cameras. I'm just a bit skeptical about a third-party device that provides power to the camera. If the battery grip shorts or something like that and damages the camera, you're more likely to get a warranty repair with the Canon grip than a different one.

Hasn't came on my 30D since I got it. Only issue I had is when I turn it off then back on the battery power is only showing one bar but if i take the battery out and put them back in it shows full life. I don't even do that anymore since the life is so good I eventually take them out to give a full charge anyway.

I've had the same grip on two cameras (XT&XTI) about 3 years with no problems at all .

I'm in debate as well. Had a third party and it stopped working thus I stopped using it. Didn't care, made more room in my bag. But I want one again for concerts and weddings so I don't need to worry about changing batteries. Now I'm wondering which to get. I'm thinking I'll get Canon's or my 40D to play it safe with the warranty but my 20D can stay 3rd party
