I am starting to collect wine for the hell of it. I wanted to know what I should do. I am mainly going to collect red wines. Should I just get a wooden rack? Should I get a little climate controlled fridge? Or should I just stick them in my closet in my room?

Well, they prefer to live on their side at around 15-20C/55-65F. How close do you come to being able to achieve that year round? And do you intend to lay down a selection of vintages for aging or just have a good selection on hand for current needs? The longer you plan to keep the stuff, the more important a managed environment will be.

I have 3 wine 'coolers' that hold about 150 bottles. Since you're in Houston, you should have something similar to keep wine at the optimum temperature, if you're going to hold more than a year. Otherwise room temp will be ok. And most of the wine available in the stores is meant for early consumption.

Check this forum for advice on all things wine:

I plan to have some for personal consumption and some for aging. I would love to dive in and get a cooler for it but, my interest for photography is still #1. But, I will take all this into consideration once I have more than a dozen or so bottles!
