As some of you may know, I recently purchased a used 1Ds Mk II in excellent condition but when I look through the view finder, I am seeing a piece of dust or dirt of some kind and cant seem to get it off with blowers or swabs so I'm guessing this dirt is possibly in between the focusing screen and the penta-prism?

How do you remove these things and reinstall them? I can't find anything in the owners manual that covers this?

Cheers!

Its easier to ignore it, clean it once you see a few more, or bring it to a professional. They focus screen is very easy to scratch. I would never swab a focus screen, it won't show up in your pictures so don't worry about it!

I have some medial grade foam swabs that are very soft and leave no residue like a cotton swab might; so thankfully I didn't scratch anything in there! But your advice is sound as this doesn't affect any pictures taken with the camera.

Cheers!

There seems to be quite a different procedure between the two cameras unless the video in the 1D series camera was incomplete?

Thanks for the links!

Cheers!

Whatever you do don't swab them, when you get a new one they come with a tool for instalation....Without a tool you might touch it and leave prints. I have used that tool and dipped the screen in warm dishsoapy water then blowdry and that works......OK, but usually if I need to clean the pentaprism I just get another screen.
Cheers!
