There was this huge photography contest "Iranian national photo biennial". Fancy name right? And the judges were like the "most amazing professors of the best universities". And I'm not kidding. Anyway.
12000 pictures were sent for this contest,
And wanna see the best ones?

Sorry for the torture. There's some more but I wouldn't want any of you to die.
Overexposure or underexposure + High contrast + black and white = how you can win this stupid contest.
So what do you think?

Some of them are arty...
The rest are like "WTF!!"
Seriously, they put some random picture of a whiteboard in, and a way way over exposed shot of a bunch of people walking???

Those are the winners.
And there is a lot to photograph in Iran. Wildlife, macro, landscapes, those are universal. :) And there's also a gallery of the pictures which didn't win [POSTed by the people who sent their pictures] and I've looked at some of them and none were b&w and none of them actually hurt my soul. I think the only one to blame here is the judges. What kind of photographer would choose these pictures [I'm repeating 12000 pictures were sent. Not all of them could be worse than these.] And they're supposed to be professors.
These pictures are being shown to public somewhere and they'll be also publishing a book. Funny yeah?

I don't know what to say. That first picture pretty much sums it up. Just "blah".

And here are some of the pictures which didn't win anything. Please have a look, at least the contrast won't kill your eyes. And I think all of them are better than the winning ones.

There are some pretty nice ones in there. I like the shoes and dunes and the last one.

I'd hate to see what the losing photos looked like...

Ouch, ouch, ouch... Did they draw the winners? Or just pick the ugliest?

I wish you guys would take this competition more seriously. I nearly won it this year. I had a series of excellent, detailed shots of 3 Iranian nuclear facilites and had I not sold them (and the copyright) to a nice Israeli gentleman I was a sure fire winner :-)

My current location should also be a warning to the perils of this style of photography :-(
