Hi
I am new to photography and have recently purchased the G6. I have tried taking alot of pictures and the outdoor pictures do not seem very vibrant. I have mostly been using the auto setting. Also what is the best settings for this camera?
Fine,superfine
any other pointers would greatly be appreciated.

Dan

Play around in program and AE modes for a little bit. I always use my G6 at iso 50. (I think it's sensitivity is more like iso 80-90??)

For the most part, I only print up 4x6's, so I hardly ever shoot at full resolution (I usually use m1), but I like to keep the camera from overcompressing the pictures so I tend to leave it on superfine. I haven't noticed much difference in picture quality between superfine and fine when printing them on 4x6's.

I don't think Canon likes to overprocess their images in camera...they would much rather you have full control. That's only my opinion. So I think that images come out a little soft and a little undersaturated. Personally, I prefer it that way because I want to control that in post-processing. You can bump all that up in your shooting prefs if you want while you're in any mode but the auto modes and I've been somewhat happy with the results.

Again, I'd play around with program and ae modes to get started...I've been very happy with my G6!

Hi there,

I've had a g6 since last November and still learning. What you could also is shooting in RAW too, i did'nt like at first but since installing CS2 over CS i seem to get better results in the processing stage with CS2. Just enjoy the camera you have, some people on this forum also loathe it as they have had problems of some kind especialy the softness when you upload them. But as it's just been mentioned on this section some work has to done yourself too, think of working in a darkroom but on a PC instead. When a wedding photorapher takes his/her films in or up load to there PC prior tp printing they too will some work on the images to get perfection.

ENJOY.

Karl.
