I'm thinking about switching to a 2 lens setup. I love photography but I hate having stuff collect dust. I'm thinking of keeping my 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 IS and selling my Minolta Rokkor 50 f/1.2, 100mm macro and 35L.

Anybody else thinned out their lenses and regretted it?

I did have a 15mm FE and 100mm macro which I sold because I rarely used them. I regretted selling the macro straight away because it was such a versatile lens.

I have the 24-70 + 70-200IS at the moment... ALWAYS wish I had wider and longer (excuse me LOL). The 2 lenses I have suits me for 80% of my shooting, but as my fields slowly diversify... I find myself needing more specialised lenses.

So no primes anymore? Not a big low light person?

Anyway, sell them if you don't think you'll ever use them. Put that money towards stuff that will fill your photography needs.

If they're genuinely not being used, or you can get the majority of your money back on them, then it might be worthwhile, otherwise I'd keep them because the 35L 100 macro and the rokkor are all great lenses. :P

Exactly. I've recently started shooting gigs and have been hiring wide aperture primes to cover these. By the end of 2009, I expect to have about 8-9 lenses. My 2 zooms cover the majority of my shooting, but then I'm stuck when my NEEDS change.

I used the primes quite a bit because I've been in Hawaii for almost 5 years now. However, after I return from Iraq, I have to move to Ft Benning, Georgia (Columbus area). The photography opportunities there is quite limited  Currently, I use the 35L alot but foresee it'll collecting dust once I move to Geogia.

I can't imagine having too many lenses at this point: I constantly have a need for at least 2-3 different lenses I don't have. The next ones on my list are 35 f/1.4, 85 f/1.2 and 16-35 f/2.8. Those will probably have to wait until after I get a 5D.

Still thinning. I miss the sold ones, but I don't need them.

I'm even thinking of keeping the 24-105 (for focal length, not as better than my other lenses) for 5D Mk II and the 17-40 for 40D and selling everything else, including flash and studio lights, with the idea I will focus more on photography than gear.
