Hi to all, well I can't say I'm new here since I've been registered for a while now, visiting more often in the last weeks, but never presented myself though, so Hi!
My name is Alex and I'm glad about this place. Congrats to all that make it possible and to all great photographers who visits.

My question is regarding my cam, it died on Christmas day, (just when I was taking my kids reactions with a brand new 85mm 1.2 L) Ufff, sometimes shoots, sometimes everything is black, then an error and then nothing. I had this cam for a couple of years now, is a 20D and I wonder if sending it for repair is worth it or do I have the perfect reason (uhumm excuse ) for a 5dMKII (which BTW I thought Santa will bring but nope). oh well.

Alex

You're well out of warranty. You'll be paying more than the camera is worth to get it fixed.

It sounds like your shutter may have failed. (broken) It's a perfectly good excuse to get the 5dmkII :)
At some point you could get the 20D repaired and have a good crop body for backup.

To get the shutter replaced on your 20D will be more than $300. You can get a used 20D for about $350. So it is time to think about upgrading.

If you have the money, and you really need a full frame look for a used 50D. It will be a big upgrade from the 20D. I have two 20D's and am thinking of selling them and buying a used 40D. Anything over 400ISO sucks with a 20D.
