50mm f/1.4 trouble with AF?

Hey guys,

I picked up a used Canon 50mm f/1.4 recently and I've been taking alot of pictures with it.

It seems like it doesn't like to autofocus and I tend to have to switch it to Manual. Now I read alot of reviews on it and it did say it has some trouble in darker lighting..

Most of the time, the AF lights up the focus brackets, but does not beep.. Almost like it's hunting.

Then when it does beep, it will beep.. then hunt.. then beep.. beep beep.. and repeatedly do this.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to test it out? Is it worth having a dealer check it out?

Hm...

The only time I can get the camera to beep like it's possessed is when I set the lens to MF mode. When I manually focus, the camera will beep constantly when it believes you've nailed the focus.
