duckie - great review, thanks.

since you got your 1541t, are you still using the manfrotto? was wondering what your impressions of the two are, relative to each other. which do you like better and why?

Thanks for the C&C batch.....!!!!!

For the Questions.....

Yes, I think I'll use both.
For Manfrotto I love the center column able to switch from vertical to horizontal position. felt will be very useful for macro shot and where limited space.

For GT1541T, I really love the weight and compact.
and I'm very impress how this tripod performance.
I felt is really useful for light traveling and hiking.
Last weekend, I was on a short trip and bring along this tripod is really light compact and easy to carry around.

Anyway both have their Pro's and Con's.
Still I love both.

In the beginning, I was thinking of selling 190PROCX3.
Since I don't really need 2 tripod. but after thinking over again.
I decided to keep this tripod. since I felt this tripod has his Pro's too....

Thanks for the reply rubber_duckie.

I am debating between the GT1541T and the 190CXPRO4. Obviously the Gitzo is better quality, has higher load capacity and I like the twist lock legs. But I also like the horizontal center column feature on the Manfrotto and the extra 12 cm when extended.

When you use the 1541T do you find that you have to extend the center column fully, or can you comfortably use it with the center column only partially extended or not extended at all? I'm a little taller than you (178 cm) so wondering how comfortable the 1541T would be for me.

Thanks again.

Yes, u are right GITZO will better in term of the quality and their engineering skills. I was very impress with this tripod (GT1541T)
is a very simple design and you able to count how many screws they used.
to assembly the tripod.

If time allow I planning to do a review of this tripod.
in term of engineering point of view. So ppl will able to have a better pictures how this tripod actually manufacture from.

As for your question.
In the beginning, I assume I needed to fully extended the center column.
but I didn't cos after adding the Markin Q3 BH and mounted my camera (50D) I don't need to extended fully. as I only need to extended less than half of the center column.

Here are some pix,I took so I hope that will helps.
to have a better pic of the height.

The first pix, is the tripod is fully extended.

This pix show, the tripod itself height is abt 1.4m.
add on the BH will be abt 1.5m
and add on the camera with grip will be 1.65m.
but for 1.65m is kinda of high for me. cos overall my height is 1.72m but my eye looking at the VF will be much lower.
so I have to lower the center column, so I able to look at the VF.

hope the pix will helps....

Thanks for the pictures. They're really helpful!

It's interesting ... Gitzo's specs say the GT1541T is 134 cm with column extended, which is 6 cm shorter than your pictures. I wonder what the difference is. You definitely have the 1541T not the 1540T, right? Gitzo specs say the 1540T is 140 cm.

Anyway, thanks so much for the info, rubber_duckie. I really appreciate it.

Well, I just took the plunge and got the 1541T. rubber_duckie, mine measures the same as yours. 113 cm/44.5 in. without the center column, 141 cm/55.5 in. with the center column fully extended.

I guess Gitzo's specs are just wrong.

Thanks again for all your help. Now just gotta get a ballhead!

Well, I've spent the last 2 weeks researching non-stop so it's not that fast!

I just ordered ben_r_'s setup:
Markins Q3T
RRS B2 LR II
RRS L-plate

Expedited shipping on everything so should have it by end of the week.

Can't wait!

I also thinking of changing my plate to RRS.... is just too slow to mount and screw my camera on the BH. :(

I have one question,

Once u got ur toys can you let me know.
if RRS QR plate come with a Stud screw for the Markins BH.
Or just use back the Markins BH stub screw for the RRS QR plate.
Is the screw thread able to fit on the RRS QR plate?

Cos, I wanted to remove the plate and remove to RRS QR plate.
Just want a confirmation on this.

Thanks...
