Welcome, I'm in Mesa. Don't worry about the kit lens. Learn as much as you can about the camera and try to get the most out of what you have. I've seen some rather incredible photos from kit lenses.

I wish I knew about this earlier...I would have been able to join. Already made plans with the wife tomorrow. I'll go subscribe to that thread so I can be informed of this stuff for future dates. Thanks for the heads up though!

We are planning on taking our family vacation in the Arizona area this summer. I really want to visit one real Ghost Town while we are there (for my selfish photographic reasons, really). Can you recommend any good ones?

Take a look at this site and select the counties you'll be visiting. Just don't count on seeing the movie variety of ghost town.

Thanks Hawkeye, I found that via Google. The photos are lacking, however. I do not want to find a "Hollywood Style" ghost town . Looking for weathered boards and rusty stuff...

Jared, I started out with a Rebel with a kit lens and a few Tamys from my 35mm rebel. Learn as much as you can and upgrade from there.
