Excellent shot. The surfer seems awfully close to those poles in the background.

It is a fabulous shot - but he is probably not as close as you think. Unless the photographer is on a really stable boat, or a jetty, this must be shot with the 300 or 400mm at full telephoto and you are seeing depth-of-field compression that reduces the apparant distance of objects across the field of view.

Probably is. The 40D is still an awesome camera and takes amazing shots with good glass. I will not give mine up until I have to.

Getting enough rain up there in Brownwood today? I am looking at the radar and wow - hopefuly all that water will drain down into Lake Travis.

^^ Thanks fellas.jhoag is correct. I used my beastly 400 F2.8L MKII and was down the beach when I took these shots. I covered the 2011 US Open of Surfing with the good ol' trusty 40D. I'm mostly shooting now with the FF's bodies but I will never part ways with my 40D :):D

Great to see all the stunning images posted here produced by the 40D!

I have not been using my 40D much lately, it stays in the car but for planned shoots I always end up using other equipment. When I got home today, just after a rainstorm, I took my 40D out to charge the battery. As I walked into the house I saw the last rays of the sun changing the colors of the left-over clouds from the storm. The 40D with my compromise Tamron 18-270 VC PLZ lens produced the goods!

Thanks for looking,
Rudi

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!
