When I get a 5dmkII, my 40d will be my backup. Even though I dislike the fact the grip has issues when showing battery levels and the fact the 85mm 1.2L also shows issues.

I will keep the 40D since it would add versatility to all my lenses, especially at the long end. Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

After that it will FF, nothing less. I don't see what else they can do to the 1.6 frame to make it dramatically better than what they've already got. The 50D is arguably slightly better, but not drastically. -Sami

I bought the 40 with intentions of upgrading to the 5 whenever the moment presented itself. It did, I did. I always intended to keep the 40 for wildlife, sports or other situations where the reach and speed are a factor. Add one other benefit, the live view. I find myself using live view more than I originally expected. Better on the 40: LCD, menu system, sensor cleaning, 2 more custom C settings. I always want C&C on my shots.

Besides I have yet to use 40D to its full potential. 6D + enough lenses for now.

Photos are getting better with each shoot, as I'm learing how to get the most out of the camera and non-L glass. (70-300 IS)Getting some incredible photos. I'll stick with the crop as it's ideal for sports. 1D MkIII is too heavy. IMO 50D isn't worth it....I'll wait till they improve the AF before upgrading (here's hoping)

It's like doubling the lenses in my bag with one purchase. Follow me on Facebook: Natural Light Magic
