Great shots nice to see some of the old gems. did you see any Lotus's their especialy the esprit?

P.

Yeah, early single seaters and a couple of John Player Special liveried Grand Prix cars.

Although I didn't see an Esprit on track, there was a huge car show, so no doubt there were a few.

Cars of note in the show, XJ220, Mclaren F1, 70's 911 RS, quite a few Pagani and (literally!) hundreds of Porsches and Astons!

Went out to Eastern Creek last weekend and decided I'd take the 40D along with the 80-200L. That lens is so slow to focus in servo it was slowing the high speed frame rate significantly. still took a few good photos (most failures were mine, not the cameras).

Hello again. I need some advice. I have an opportunity to purchase an old film lens, a Sears 135 f2.8 with what the seller describes as a Canon mount. I'm thinking FD. So, is there a group here on the forum that shoots old film lenses on the 40D (or other Canon DSLR's)? Is it worth the $15 to buy the old film lens? Are there any FD-to EOS adapters that work ok?

I do this with my Pentax DSLR all the time and love it... but I'm not sure with Canon. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Canon fd and Minolta mc/md are not good to use with Canon EF mount cameras as they reqire an adapter with glass for infinity focus. Any of the old lenses that you use on the Pentax will work with a simple with a simple "fill in the blank" to EOS adapter. (PK, M43, Om, Nikon, cy).

6D, 5D, 7Dii, Eos R and too many lenses, flashes and aux. gear to list!

There are many vintage lenses you can use with an adapter, but you want to stay away from old Canon FD-mount lenses. We have a dedicated "MF adapted lenses" thread at POTN with loads of information and good people to answer all of your questions here.

I read the magic drainpipe was pretty fast compared to other L's of this comparative focal length. http://kenrockwell.com …200mm-f28-is-ii.htm#table (external link) <-- Where I got my info from. Scroll down to see the chart Not sure if a fast flick is supposed to be faster or slower than fast.

That table seems to me to be talking about the feel of the zoom ring rather than AF Servo speed.

To be fair to the lens, I think I need to take a closer look at my CFn's for Servo mode as the body really hunts a lot making tiny adjustments. This behaviour doesn't help this lens's slowish focus adjust speed

Well if you read Ken Rockwell's magic drainpipe review http://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/80-200mm-f28.htm (external link) <--found here he talks a lot about how fast the AF is and how "Every sports pro had one of these in his bag in the early 1990s" and "Autofocus is fast but not silent". Also "Even at f/2.8, all my shots are dead-on at every focal length on my Canon 5D Mark II. Yes!" That last quote was taken from the AF Accuracy and Consistency section. In the AF Speed section he says "AF is fast!, as Canons always are".

Hopefully you don't have a bad AF motor? It is an old lens.

Yeah, in my typical use it's fine. Just on the 40D in Servo. The 55-250 didn't cause this sort of hit to burst speed when shooting bikes.

I went out to a flat track meeting on the weekend with my wife for a bit of fun. I took the D700 and 120-400 Sigma zoom for action the 40D and 150 Macro for detail shots on the pits. But out at the fence the lady asked if she could have a try. I gave her the 40D in Servo, single shot, Av at f/5.6 at ISO 200 to hopefully cover all bases for her.

She'd never shot anything like this before so I wasn't expecting great shots. That little body and my old favourite lens allowed her to manage a keeper rate of better than 50% filling up a 4gig card. She had a great time.

Here's one of her better ones
