bought mine used with 50 shots for $600 CAD, well $900 but after I sold the 17-85 lens for $300 bucks I got the best deal EVER on a 40D. I am coming from a 20D although I have owned a 5D and 1DMKII I like the 40D best because its not a gold brick depreciating in my bag.

I love my 40D and wanting to get another one for my wedding jobs

I previously owned a XT, 20D and held a 5D

I love the 40D for the ergonomics, menu, solid feel and a workhorse!!!

I'll be keeping my 40d's. I don't see the 50d or the 5d-II as much of an upgrade for the type of shooting that I do. When I do get another body it will be for better focus ability and high iso IQ. I will still keep the 40d's. It is a great body for the money. Untill I reach that point I will put my money into quality glass.

Even with quality glass the 40D still delivers great images. I'm constantly impressed by it! Not bad for "old tech" *figuratively speaking of course.

Not quite. I was going off of this statement, the way I read it was he would use the 40D UNTIL he started to get good glass, which is why I replied it's only that much better when you throw the good glass on it! (But yes you are right it still does very well w/o the best of lenses. I love using my 28 f/1.8 on it!)

I've decided that whatever body I may get in the future, my 40D stays. I will use the 40D until it dies and cannot be repaired, and "if" that happens I will still keep the 40D and use it as a photogrpahy decoration for my home...a photographer's version of a lawn gnome, if you will.

:D

I love my 40D but I'm awaiting delivery of the 7D. I plan on using the 40D as a 2nd body.

Couldn't agree with you more (even though I don't own a FF "yet").

i seriously doubt you two guys have spent anytime behind a full frame sensor,,,it is better in every aspect over a 1.6 format.

that being said..i have 2 40d's and a 5d. love these 40's,,great cameras. 17-55 on a 40d is difficult to beat unless you jump into a 1 serirs camera. however, with the new 7d and the high iso capabilities, one of my 40d's may go to a fire sale. just depends. cant see dumping it for 650.00 either. i would get another pelican and roll around 4 bodies with different lens attached before i gave it away. 40d is just too good of a camera

My 40D is now semi retired. I have a 7D and the 40D will replace my Digital Rebel (300D) as my 2nd body

I like my 40D, but I always felt that the AF was lacking - it did a very good job with high contrast subjects (BIF against blue sky), but it lost focus-track as soon as another high contrast subject entered the field of view. I now own a 7D and finally Canon got it right - focus tracking is a breeze with this new camera. I will keep the 40D for a 2nd body for bird photography, but clearly the 7D beats the 40D in almost all aspects.
