While I think there is no reason at all to get rid of my 40D, I am not loyal to it in the least. It's a camera.

I'm not loyal to my claw hammer, my keyboard, or my paper shredder either, nor do I love any of them.

Jeez people, it's just stuff.

I surely am not loyal to my 40D. While I like my camera and just about everything about it, I finally got to try full frame yesterday and OMG... 5D Mark II here I come.

I couldn't agree more. I don't buy gear to hold on to it forever (except certain lenses). If something comes along that will allow me to shoot better pictures (such as higher resolution or better low-light, faster FPS, w/e) and I can afford it, then I will buy that.

I buy/sell/trade gear all the time. I kind of like it that way, always something new.

The 40D will be with me for a long, long time. One, because of money, and two, I would like to upgrade my Rebel XSi first to a 5D before I think about anything else. And then get more L glasses. And then get a second strobe. And finally go wireless. THEN, and only then would I consider upgrading my 40D.

I'm thinking to sell it and use the money to buy another lens, the only bad thing that I never noticed until I upgraded to a newer body is the LCD, it just makes me sick when I look back at it.. But the rest of it is just fine, and I still love it..

And to think that the whole world revolves around "stuff" you own, stuff you want, stuff you buy to keep other stuff in, stuff you envy, stuff you throw away, and stuff you stuff your house with :)

I am now 26 months into my 40D and really haven't seen anything else out there that has interested me. While the 5DMk2 looks like a logical jump, it is way out of my price range. Not sure I see enough extras to justify the 7D, at least not at these "First Adopters Pricing".

If anything, I *might* send my 40D back to Canon in the coming months (if I can spare it) and have it cleaned and serviced. I say *might* because for the past 26 months, I have used it pretty much every single day.

Just did the same thing!
(Well, actually, I still have my XS - Just sent it back to Canon, as it is still under warranty, for basically a once-over.) :)

So far loving the feel of the 40D and the paces I'm putting it through, but I need an opportunity to go take some real pictures!

I've been looking for a 40D users thread for a while now, wasn't sure if there was one. I got my 40D about a month now and just love it, I really liked my XS/1000D but now I can't go back. Loving the 40, got it used for a song with only 9000 clicks

Still have my 40D. It works so well that I bought a second one.

I'm not loyal to it, or anything really. It's just simply the VERY BEST bang for the buck you can possibly buy. The AF can only be described as stellar, the image quality is excellent, and it's megapixel count is perfect. It has most of the modern features like live view, sensor cleaning, speedlite control etc... but can be bought so cheaply.

The 50D doesn't interest me at all. The 7D looks awesome, but I can't justify the huge price tag when the 40D is such a great performer.

It's not about loyalty, it's just that the 40D is such a sweet spot in the canon lineup at the moment. And has been since the 50D was released. It has a GREAT balance of everything, from performance to price.

I just love the pervasive assumption here that everyone on POTN has the money to upgrade every time a new camera is introduced. :-| Sure, I'd like to have a 7D and a 5DII or a 1D and a 1Ds, but the reality is I'm going to be stuck with my 40D for a very long time...
