I just love my 40D! In fact, I'm looking for another one just to have two of them. :D

Still loving my 40D. And I have a 5D classic as well.
These two cams are the perfect team for me.

My tools? 5D & 40D with many lenses...

I love my 40, its been in rain, 9* weather, very very hot sun, been dropped twice and its never let me down... She has her scratches but its whats on the inside that counts ;)

I want to get a fool frame, and would never give up the 40, i'd use it as backup

I am not the type to feel the need to upgrade for everything. I still have my trusty 10D and didn;t feel that anything was significant (that I could afford, of course) until the 40D came out. I am still very happy with my 40D. The 50D did not entice me one bit, and I have not heard anything about the 7D to make me want one of those, either. I would like to get a 5D/5D2 for the full-frame, but cannot afford one yet.

I have two and I love 'em. Just when I think I've abused them to the breaking point, they keep going! 124k clicks on my old one right now, and just when I thought I had the ERR 99 message of death, it came back to life! Long live the 40D.

still have & use 40d until now.
before i bought a new 5d2, i wanted to sell 40d but i thought it's too bad if i sold it. 40d is a workhorse camera for me.
For the speed & price, it's a good body... even it lacks in LCD & AWB (--> better to shoot in RAW for better white balance).

Would keep it until 1d4's price goes down to around 3000USD.. (when ? when ? when ? :D )

I really liked mine - a lot, they're a great machine - but, a few months after getting a 5D2, I realised it was just going to sit in the bag and get old with little or no use, which I felt was wrong. I thought it might be one of those things I would regret, but so far so good. At least it is getting used now. I do miss the extra reach of the crop body with long lenses but you can't have everything. The full frame IQ is very nice.

I've had my 40d just a bit over 2yrs love it. I was falling out of love with it with an urge to upgrade. I'm lucky enough to work right down the street from the canon service center in Irvine. I dropped it off for a cleaning/servicing along with my 24-70mm.

Both came back better then ever!! i'm inlove with it all over again!!

I got my 40D one month after it came out and still very happy with it
I havent found that the 40D limits me in any way so staying where I am:D
I was advised that the 40D is better for macro than the 50D because of noise but felt no need to change anyway

I am feeling the temptation now, I've been reading up on the 7D. In fact, I've got the 7D manual open in another window checking some facts. It is the high ISO performance and movie mode that has me interested in switching. Its tough though, because this is NOTHING like my switch from the original DRebel to the XT or the XT to the 40D. Both of those moves were 'natural' there were compelling reasons to switch.

Off topic here, but lcpete: is that a classic GS in your avatar photo?

Is this the 40D users group? Couldn't find one. Not sure if this is the right place for my duck shot...

I love my 40D and plan on keeping it even as my gear collection expands, its my primary body now and would definitely make a GREAT back up camera. I have a 4 year warranty on the body too, so that helps.

40D is a great camera. No non-sense and personally I think the price/value is much better than the 50D. You can get some really good deals on lightly used 40Ds. Even shooting in RAW the file sizes are manageable.

So this is the official 40D thread then? The "fanboys unite" thread says it is so I guess this is where I'll plunk down my duck shot!

I've been wanting a faster sports body almost as soon as I realized I'd be using my DSLR for sports and nature in ways I never could/did with film. The T1i/500D is great for a lot of stuff but a little slow for AF and fps. I looked at the 50D when I first got my T1i and at the time couldn't justify paying more money for no video but I've now seen the light and understand why you want better AF and higher fps. When comparing however I found the 40D seems better for just action shooting, slightly faster fps and slightly longer Raw burst, better noise characteristics with the lower resolution sensor. I looked at the 7D which I found hard to use and wanted to buy a 1D Mark II but then got scared off by out of warranty issues.

So to make a short story long my local camera store still had a new 40D in stock. I got it for just over cost since Canon has discontinued it. Full warranty, first owner! Unlike the 7D which I found hard to use in the store, the 40D just seems like a more solid, faster, better sounding upgrade from my Rebel. I don't need MFA on my T1i so assuming my 40D is dialed in I won't need MFA; if it is off I'll enjoy my warranty and send it in for adjustment.

So far I'm pleased! I bought it late in the afternoon and knew a spot by the Grand River I hoped would have some ducks. It was too late really though the clock is off by an hour and says it was an hour later than it really was (daylight savings?). I literally bought it, put in a mostly charged battery from the store, new 8GB CF card and started shooting which means it was after sunset so these aren't great shots but here we go. I'd brought my Rebel with the kit lens and 100-400L to capture some wild turkeys earlier in the morning (they'd been there earlier in the week but sadly when I had a camera yesterday they were gone). At first on the river I saw only Canada Geese but then I spotted a solitary pair of Mallards!

The pair:

And a too distant Merganser but a BIF shot anyways:

The camera itself with my 100-400L, image taken with my T1i:

I'm not loyal yet but I hope to be! The indoor winter soccer season starts soon, tryouts next week then games in February and that will be the real test as my T1i gave me decent bird shots. Soccer was where it really missed most of the time. I hope the 40D upgrade over the T1i will give me a much higher keeper rate, otherwise I may need to learn the 7D or see if I can afford a 1D of some sort but I'm really hoping this is the one.
