A question for all the 40D experts @ POTN.. with which flash would I be able to maximize it's usage/features paired with my old 40D??

430exII or 580exII

Is the 580 overkill?? does the 430 pretty much cover all possible features compatible with my 40D??

I was forced to take some holiday shots with the on board flash and I was somewhat disappointed (harshness, shadows & the like) - I got a couple good shots out of it but I could tell it's time to get a more serviceable flash..

what say u??

The 580exII is a stop more powerful. It also has the ability to master in the canon non radio wireless system. Quality inexpensive ETTL triggers have rendered that second feature largely pointless. Both flashes would serve you well.
