well that backfired.

I think a meet up would be great. My wife would also enjoy it I think. So are we thinking mountains and streams, ocean and sand? Mix of both? A nature center or arboretum? Waterfalls are always nice. Could get a strong mix of things at a waterfall location.

A waterfall could be a good idea, as far as I know the only significant one in CA is up in Yosemite though..

there are a lot of them in smaller scale around LA. Nothing amzing of course, but are we looking to do something dramatic or for a bunch of people to get together that dont know much about landscape and want to learn, or both or a middle ground?

I have done a few of these falls back in the day. I really like Sturtevant falls, but it can get quite crowded. it also follows and crosses the stream a few times so there are those opportunities there as well.

How does the Huntington library/gardens sound? There is a lot to see there in my opinion and I haven't been there for a few years.

http://www.huntington.org …kidentifier=id&itemid=650 (external link)

That is the website, particularly a page about what can be done there photographically.

'Informal "vacation style" picture taking and home videotaping are permitted throughout the institution. No flash photography or tripods/monopods are permitted in the buildings, although tripods and monopods may be used in the gardens. Additional photographic equipment is prohibited (lights, reflectors, props, costumes, models), except under commercial contract. '

Also the place is pretty big, not a significant hike, and it has a lot to see

i have lived in LA all my life, I have never been to the LA Zoo. Only been to the San Diego Zoo once, been to the Santa Ana zoo a few times and then the SD Wild Animal park a bunch. So you have a vote for the Zoo from me. Also have never been to the Huntington Library so that sounds interesting as well.

Also the LA zoo has a significant lack of quality landscape material

(not to mention I don't have anything telephoto currently which would be no fun at the zoo :p)
