Hey gang I have a question, I am searching for a new backpack. I am very interested in the Lowepro Flipside as I like the idea of being able to access my gear without having to take it off and lay it on the ground to get gear out. Have any of you used one of these packs? If so thoughts? Also any other suggestions for something similar would be appreciated..

^ Which model, Eric?! I'm not 100% sure, but I think Paul (Canon Dog) has a Flipside backpack... Could be wrong...

They make several that open from the side that faces your back. Idea is you can leave it attached at the waist take the shoulder straps off rotate it around and access your gear. This is great when we are shooting at the beach as you don't have to set it in the sand to access the lenses.

Thanks I currently have a Tamrac backpack but to access the lenses and gear I have to put it on the ground. Last few outings I was in an environment I did not want to lay anything on the ground so started researching when I found the Flipside on Youtube. Sammy's does not have any in stock so not able to try, hence why I was curious if anyone local was using one.

you could try one of the sling bags too, which won't require you to place your pack on the ground. but the slings generally don't hold as much. but if you're traveling light, the slings might be more than sufficient.

You should try Fry's. last time I went, they had a ton of different bags.

I have the Flipside 300, but I don't use the flip - turn around feature so I can't comment on its usefulness. I use mine as a conventional backpack to carry my 300 f2.8

I got mine from Canoga Camera. Did you check with Samy's Fairfax store? It's the largest of their 5 stores.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Eric, I have the flipside 400 and I am very happy with it. I do not always use the flipside feature when I have a heavy lens packed. With lighter lenses I do use the flipside feature. I also have the flipside 200 that I use when I am not packing alot of lenses, filters, etc.

Does the flipside feature work? I was curious as to me it looks like it would simply stretch the waist belt out and dump everything on the ground.

Yes the flipside feature works but is a little difficult (at least for me) to support when it is fully loaded. It will not stretch the waist belt but you will need to support it with your knee or something else like a large rock, bench, etc. I hope that answers your question. If not I could bring mine the next time we all get together for a shoot.

A quick one from the GNRS today.
