You guys are too damn funny... Hhahahaha... Don't tell anyone I get a kickback from Canon... Sssshhhh... It'll be our little secret... Hehehehe... And it was great to finally meet Dean (Puckman)... You're very welcome with the filter usage... As I can see on your two images, they worked pretty well with your first outing!!! Can't wait to see your waterfall shots and the rest of your captures...

With that, I mainly focused on playing with DOF and applying the 'Brenizer Method' to a few landscape shots... I did three different scenes and this was one of them... More to come from yesterday's LA Arboretum shootout with Dean...

The 'Brenizer' Bench...

1Ds3 + 85L + Lee 0.6 ND Filter... All 25 hand held images captured at ISO 100, f/1.2, and 1/1000sec... Stitched, processed, and finalized in CS6...

:D

Nice shot, Butch.

I haven't tried this Brenizer stuff yet. I have to say, I'm a bit puzzled at the purpose of this method. What is it that one is aiming to accomplish using this method, rather than a straight up shot with shallow DOF?

As for the waterfall, here we go. There's more coming, but first things first: #1 or #2? And why?

It's basically to accomplish/acquire FOV's & DOF's that you wouldn't necessary get... For instance, my 25 image stitched "bench" capture was shot with 85mm @ f/1.2... With applying the Brenizer Method, you can get a shallower DOF at a wider angle... So my bench shot would be similar to a 12mm lens @ f/1.0 (or possibly higher, i.e. f/.95), which obviously doesn't exist... That's the beauty of this methodology... Just imagine the 16-35 lens you were using yesterday, but with an f/1.0 apertuer... WOOF!!!

He (Ryan Brenizer) started off using this technique on general landscape compositions... Soon after, he began applying to his portraitures, engagement sessions, and wedding photography... All of which rocketed his popularity in the photography industry... Hope that answered your questions, Dean!!

:D

PS. #2 for me... Exposed better... Maybe add a 1/3-stop darker to slightly bring depth back into the image...

It did. I can see how it gives the bench, in this case, a more "dreamlike" vibe. Besides the technical aspect of the shot, that's what I'm really seeing in terms of impact. Hopefully, that's the intent there. Hehe.

So, that shot of yours is really 25 different shots? Wow.

So how do you like the waterfalls? #1 or #2?

I edited my original post and added a "PS" to it... heheehe... #2 for me with, perhaps, adding a 1/3-stop darker to bring back some depth...

Just like you I was on my way to work but I had my camera with me so I pulled over and snapped these. I wish I had time to set up a tripod and a bit longer exposure to shoot with. They are pretty much straight out of the camera. All I did was just open up some of the blacks and shadows a bit.
I know I mentioned in one of my previous post that I have broken hands so this is not bad for 1/60 second hand held shot. :D

Puckman, The framing on the foreground in #2 is definitely more better as is the exposure. I also agree with Butch that this scene would be a bit better darkened slightly, but I'm thinking that if you just pull the blacks and shadows back a bit it would bring out the water more.

Thanks. I'll play with it some more tonight and see what I can do to improve it.

Those sunrise shots are RIDICULOUS. You probably have more steady hands, even broken, than I do, haha.

Hey Butch, what was that backpack you had with you yesterday? I'm currently shopping for something like that to carry my gear around. Something that would fit several lenses and accessories. Yours looked compact enough, but you managed to fit a lot of stuff in it.

Lowepro Trekker 200... Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com …kpack-Black/dp/B00007E7UN (external link)

Had this backpack since 2005... It's been with me on all my travels around the world and when I shoot locally... Through rain, snow, and hot summer days, it still holding strong after all these years... If I had one issue with it, it would be that the shoulder padding is wearing thin... But that's just from years of use and abuse... hehehehe...

:D
