I was looking at that sky last night and wondering what you were going to do with it, very well done Patrick as usual, love the perspective and balance of the shot, the B&W is perfect choice.

At least you have an office with a beach view. Take pics from your office!

I'm stuck in an office with no windows (it's in the middle of the building). I couldn't even tell you what the weather's like today...

I hear you about the private sector. I'm lucky that I haven't had to work long hours yet this year (but it does happen, depending on deadlines).

Well to clarify, my personal office has no windows as it's an interior office. I have to walk 100' to the restroom area to see out the "building" windows which overlook Newport Beach the city, not the actual beach. Since I am on the 4th floor I can almost see the coastline which actually sucks at times as I can see what a beautiful day I am missing down there.

LOL. Fair enough. :)

I used to work on 5th street in Santa Monica, about 3 blocks from the pier. I miss that. I could run out to the beach/pier on my lunch break, or anytime I wanted. Nowadays, where I'm at now, there's nothing all that exciting, even outside my office.

I like the balance in the composition.
This is exactly the kind of pic that makes me look back at mine (I took shots of a pier only 2 days ago) and realize that I need to work more on composition.
It would've been a simple matter for me to include a lifeguard tower in my shots to add that balance, but I never thought of that until now.

I just noticed the surfer in the shot, now that is way cool!

Patrick I was wondering if the slight bending of the image edges can be corrected in post? Just wondering if things like that can be done as I shoot WA a lot when doing landscape and have lots of photos with trees leaning in on the sides. I don't know much about editing photos so was curious.

I think you can correct to some degree in post. I'm no expert, but I tend to use the lens correction profile in Lightroom which corrects for lens distortion (to some degree).
I run 99% of my shots through the lens correction before I do any other editing. (The 1 % being where I intentionally want some kind of distortion).

Something that may be of interest, Dean

^^ Composition makes the story just like this grom as he sees his opponent. Hope someday you can make it in of of those meetups with the fellas not only it's fun to shoot but very educational as well. You get to see first hand how everyone's style and approach is and learn it from there...^^

Slow here today. Where's everyone at?

Hey, I have a question for you guys: Any one here convert their raw files to DNG or work with DNG at all? I'm having a hell of a time settling on a workflow for importing/processing/organizing my photos. Curious to hear if anyone incorporates DNG in their workflow at all.

^ I personally don't use DNG in my workflow... Perhaps I should, but at this point in the game I'll process via RAW... Starting with quick editations in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw)... Then open up the image in CS6 and process/finalize them... And finish it off by saving in JPEG format for web view... That's my process, Dean... With that said... Uno from moi @ Bolsa Chica Wetlands Reservation...

From tip-to-tip, the pelican's wingspan was easily over 12 feet long... 1D4 + 400 2.8L II 'non-IS' + 48mm Drop-in CPL... ISO 100, f/2.8 @ 1/8000sec...
