it's from that park across the way, same side as the queen mary.

I tried a 30 second exposure, and that looked fine. then I tried a 5 min exposure, and liked the glassy water look better. The lights looked more like a mirror, so I stuck with it.

thats exactly where we were on thursday night and then friday. For some elevation you can shoot from the queen mary but they have a $15 charge to get on the boat now. uhgh.

To get closer to that bridge, keep following the road by the hotels towards the bridge. Parking is tricky but possible. Or you can park by the park and then walk over. The downside is that some of the lights on the bridge are out. Being closer to the bridge does let you get a good shot of the lighthouse.

Here are a couple more shots from the March Field Museum.

Really impressed with the outdoor shots Gene, the clouds really cooperated to make a fantastic backdrop for those planes. Some day would like to try an air show.

Are you doing much in post with these shots? They really look top notch.

Nice shot, had no idea about getting on the queen mary. I did get some shots of the lighthouse from across the way. Wish I could have grabbed it from different points.

Thanks. There is a walkway along the water. Runs from the queen mary along the water to the boat launch on the other side of the bridge. Gives you some good angles. Also you can walk on the bridge itself and there is a walk way which at night is empty. Lots of walking but you can get even better angles sometimes.

Thanks. For awhile, I was afraid the clouds would move in completely to block the sun. The photos were all shot with the Sony a7r so I'm just playing with the highlights / shadows sliders in the Adobe camera raw editor to try and leverage that extra dynamic range during processing.

Thank you Joe. If you look at the bottom left side of below picture, there are short bare branches. Birds were sitting on those branches so I guess you can say they were pretty close to me. I didn't have to crop much.

Well, I should let you know that it's not all THAT great... I could be wrong but I think it should be better and greener in spring or summer. My purpose of this visit was to determine whether I can have an outdoor family session here. My thoughts are split at this moment. Since it's literally 5 minutes away from my house, I'm planning to check out again in Spring.

Interesting set of planes. This one's nice. I gotta make a trip to the March museum.

This is really close to me. I need to hit that up. Your pics look great! I don't know why you say it's not "THAT" great!

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.
