I had a guy wanting to higher me to do a model shoot the same evening after the World Super Bike races were done. He actually knew quite a bit about photography but still seemed to think I'd bring a bunch of lighting gear to an event that
most of the shots lighting is worthless.
To be fair sports and wildlife photographers do have some key skills that are important for wedding photography. They may even have the many or all of other skills needed. I'd say the
good wedding photographers are the Jack of all trades.
yep, I kinda agree. Would I do wedding photography? sure, but maybe not the whole thing. I can shoot the events without issue, the posed shots would be more trouble for me because I dont have a ton of experience posing people. I guess I can post process too, but you'de have to pay me some dough to do it, not leaving my day job anytime soon.
IMO, if you shoot people, you shoot people 
You present them in the most flattering way or capture expressions. Same thing with weddings.
