There are a few questions here.

What do you use as far as software to download or upload (which ever is correct) your photos from your camera to your computer? The software that came with your Canon? or what?

Also how do you get that info from each photo like the aperture, shutter and iso? Do you only get that if you shot in raw and not jpeg? Or is it the software that gets it like in the question above?

I have just been putting my photos on my computer with ms scan and photo wizard or something like that. I just put them in a folder on my desktop and check them out in Photoshop CS.

Thank You in advance.

i use camerawindow just because it puts the files into folders by date & saves me fiddling about. then i use better file rename to rename the files in a batch by YYYY-MM-DD HH MM SS so each has a unique name and is in order (important when i use more than 1 card on a shoot or more than 1 camera body)
then import to lightroom for sorting, tagging, processing, archiving etc
if you shoot in jpg you can get the exif data by right-clicking the image, choosing properties, summary, advanced - or your cataloging/editing software

So if I keeping doing it how I am doing like I said above I can still get the exif data? Cool. Thank You:lol:

the exif data is embedded into the image, only photoshop's 'save for web' or similar types of export processing can 'strip' it out of a photo. (note, 'save for web' creates an optimised copy of the photo, it doesnt affect the original)

for raw files, you would need to use something like zoombrowser, lightroom, or an exif reader (for example) to read it as the properties function in xp doesnt work for those

To download from camera to computer I use the software from the camera. If you are using a Canon and have DPP, the exif data can be viewed with the pics. Canon software also instals into folders which are dated.

I second that from *kiwichris*. I use the software the Canon came with which is "EOS Utility". It's quick, easy and organized.

Breeze Systems offers Downloader Pro (external link) for US $30, a program that automates file transfers and lets you get up the directories and file names you want to use. This program was most useful for previous generations of Canon cameras that created new subdirectories for each new batch of 100 images, but it's still good for those who want to control how their picture files are organized.

I use Adobe Bridge. It automatically creates a backup of all of my images on a second hard-drive, which makes me feel good.

We use PhotoShop Elements 6. Does a great job and works automatically.

We should mention that we download the files from the CF memory card, through an in-computer card reader (Atech Flash Technology, Inc., model PRO-28U). We do not download directly from the camera.

We invested in the Atech card reader because it is the best rated out there, and reads virtually any kind of card. It has never once failed, unlike the El-Cheapo card readers provided by most computer manufacturers. The Atech cost a whole $28 from Newegg, installed in the otherwise-worthless 3½-inch floppy bay, and plugged right into the motherboard.

I'm slowly switching to using Lightroom since it can rename the photos however you want, do a backup as well, etc.. I've been using the Sony Cybershot software that I had installed before I bought my XTi, it's very quick and easy. If they are not important pics (like pictures for ebay or something) then I will usually drag and drop.

I use Photo Mechanic to copy photos from card to computer. It's pretty cool since it enables you to rename photos on ingest, apply IPTC, and sort it to proper directory. Because I normally work under really short deadlines, such things come really handy. :)
