While waiting for the radiopopper Jrs to ship (outside the US), I will be getting ebay triggers to fill the gap. Is there a particular brand of ebay trigger (cactus, YHPT-6045, Jue Ying, R16, Gadget Infinity, etc) from a particular seller that is more reliable than the rest?
On the flipside, is there one to avoid at all costs?
I know the general consensus is they are all probably the same, only repackaged with different names but still, $20 bucks is still $20 bucks.

Also, do i get the V2 or V2s for my 580exII?

i just realized that i made a mistake buying PT-04 tMs. lol.. OH CRAP hahahah

i would buy them from Gadget infinity. you should buy the 16 channel triggers (external link) so that they can hang from an umbrella.

i have to rebuy new triggers and receivers. just perfect. oh whatever. who cares.

Thanks Marloon! I will be taking the V2s. Which ebay seller would you (or anybody else here) recommend?

I just got a set of Cactus V2s from GadgetInfinity and they do the job pretty well. Certainly should work as a stop gap.

Why do you say it's a mistake?
I don't think it's a mistake buying them.
I use them with a 430EX, and it works perfectly.

A friend of mine, for his 580EX uses the cactus V2s' ones, and they work fine, too.

I have both a set of the Cactus V2s, and the RD616 set. The V2s triggers the flash fine, but I get a *lot* of mistriggering and RF interference issues.

The RD616 set didn't trigger the 580EX II at first (other people have reported success, but mine just did not trigger the flash). A slight modification later, and not only does it trigger the flash fine, I get *no* mistriggers or RF interference issues, making it my trigger of choice out of the two.

Turns out a gripped 7D + 622 + 580exII + 70-200 2.8 IS MK2 is BLOODY HEAVY! Who knew?!!

Talbot,

May I ask what was "the slight modification" you made?

I don't know what he's done, but...

I've done some modifications to my emitter, too (YN PT-04TM).
I just cut a wire with 1/4 wave length and soldered it in the circuit like an "extra" aerial.
Before the mod it worked fine, fut failed in some shoots. Now there are no more misfires.

A better choice would be Cybersyncs. Have you checked them?

Canon 1DMkIV, Canon 1DMkIII, Canon 50D

I wouldn't call it a mistake. I have both the V2s and the PT-04. I have the 580EX2, 420EX, and Vivitar 285. The PT-04 works pretty much flawlessly on all three flashes. The V2s gives me problem after problem on the 580EX2 and works most of the time on the Vivitar.

I think you made the right choice, where'd you get the PT-04? I want to dump my V2s and replace it with a PT-04.

Sure - the full thread is here:

Basically, the triggering voltage on the RD616 was too low to trigger the flash. By bypassing the rectifier, the voltage is sufficient to trigger the flash.

Cool. Thanks, I'll check it.

I've already done the antenna mod on 2 RF 616's. I started out with the recommended 1/4 wavelength (6.5 inches), but wound up trimming down to about 5" b/c they wouldnt trip the RD at 6.5.
