Am I the first?

Well I got out of bed at 5am this morning to catch the first sunrise of 2009. Glad I did, got a few shots I am pretty happy with, and it gave me a chance to try out the 17-40 Santa bought me.

And I almost didn't take this one, but I think it is my favourite:

Wow, a glimpse into the future!
(Still only 1230pm on Dec 31 here in AZ USA)

I'll take #1 for the win... I like the fact there's some light on the triangular structure balancing the sun rise.

The last is very nice as well.

Happy 2009...

Yeah it was nice. Had a quiet night in last night, so was good to do something to mark the new year.

Yeah I am happy with it. Seems pretty sharp, and plenty wide enough. The trick with UWA is knowing when not to use it! (Like that last shot, which was taken at 80mm with the 24-105)

Dare I admit my stupidity and ask what that actually is, and where abouts you were?

It's a trig station, that marks the top of a hill. It is at Mangemangeroa Reserve, on Somerville Rd. 5 minute drive and 3 minute walk from my house.

OK last 1 I think....
