I just had an accident where my 40D with 500/f4 attached fell over with tripod on the concrete floor. The 40D body is a complete loss. The 500 seemed to remarkably revived. Lucky for me both were insured 100% with no deductable.

My problem now, should I replace the body with another 40D or go for a 5Dm2? I'm no pro but I do a lot of shooting BIF and other wildlife where I need a fast auto focus and accurate AI tracking equivalent to the 40D or better.

I appreciate all suggestions.

be aware that with the different sensor size, you will lose some of the reach you have on that 500mm lens. I love my 40D, but when it gets tired or I get a ton of $$ (unlikely), a 5D will be in the works.
