Sadly this beautiful plane made a crash-landing yesterday & I don't think it'll be flying again for a wee while. Thankfully no-one hurt, but looking at the pictures I've seen it'll be at the panelbeaters for more than a couple of days.

Just love the optimism in the 2nd to last sentence about possibly flying on Saturday!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Actually, this could have been much, much worse if it weren't for the wooden prop.

The blades breaking off probably put as little strain on the engine as possible. Had they been aluminum, it probably would have stressed the crankshaft and con rods in the extreme. I'm sure they'll tear the engine down but I'm betting they got off a lot better than might have been the case.

The top link appears to be almost as it happened.

I'm afraid that with the port wheel folded forward like that there may be some serious damage to the area where the gear is attached to the main spar. Going to take a while to fix I think.

Wardie

One issue in favor of the A/C crashing like that and not under extreme power or from altitude is the fact that most of the damage is to the front end and landing gear. Two areas where it is muche easier to either rebuild or recreate parts . Main fuselage dame, wing root or tail fletching are harder to repair.

A few xrays to determine the micro fractrures and the busted bolt and then recreate the metal parts needed and bolt em on!! It actually sounds tougher than it is. Many of these birds have had to create new engine mount systems from new metal. Remember that these A/C were not designed to fly for 60+ years. It was a war plane so even though it was tough in construction, long term metal production / protection was not really part of the original design.
