I know I know, it's a Nikon. I did a lot of research before getting it for her though and for less than a hundred bucks it got the best reviews of the entry level's. I really needed something that was completely automatic for her and DPReview's review gave it the best for that. Plus her biggest criteria for her own camera camera was that it be blue.

2. Holy crap my parents bought a Nikon they must like Aston Kutcher too!

It'll be fun to see some of her shots. My daughter has a very unique (and actually pretty good) perspective.
