I'm a new 5D2 owner and when the 5D2 arrived (3 weeks ago), I went through my lens collection to play with it. When the 50 f1.4 got put on it never came off, and still hasn't. Next week I might try the 85 1.8. I still have yet to shoot anything meaningful with my zooms on the 5D2 as my primes seem to be stealing the show. Anyone got a 135L they want to sell me?? Oh wait, this is the wrong place to ask.. nevermind

... sometimes.. when I'm bored, I'll even put my sigma 30 f1.4 on my 5D2 to play with because it is sharper than my 50:eek:

I'd aspire to be one but the constant nagging from the wife about why this camera doesn't zoom, you've paid so much for a camera and it doesn't zoom, we could of bought vases, makes me consider that one zoom is needed at all times.

Plus I got her an Ixus 70 to shut her up ;)

ha! I had this issue come up the other day. Wife was taking a picture of me and the little one for the first time the other day, 5D2 with 50mm. It went something like this:

wife: You have this expensive camera and I can't zoom
me: You zoom with your feet
wife has funny look on her face
I grab the brick (24-70) and slap it on for her. She takes aim..
wife: umm.. can I have the other one back?

My wife has joined PLA. ;)

What brought on the reversal? IQ, speed, DOF?

I've got my eye firmly on a 35L, how would one explain that to the wife?

Actually, I think it was just the weight! All my primes are lighter than my zooms :-D Sorry, nothing more sophisticated than that I'm afraid.

I don't own the 85L, so all my primes are lighter than my zooms :-)

I managed to find the cure for my disastrous prime addiction : get them all.
Current lenses : 14 2.8 mk2, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2 mk2, 135 2 , 200 2.8 mk2, 300 2.8 IS.
Soon to be added, in order to complete the treatment (within the next few weeks) : 24 1.4 mk2.
Hopefully I will be able to fight off : 24 ts-e, 90 ts-e. The next few months will be critical :).
Only 1 zoom will stay with me, for the moment : the 70-200 4 IS.

I've had quite many zooms, but there's just something I don't like about them. Good thing is, as a hobbyist I don't need to have them.

f2.8+ = eww ;)

I use all primes, but not because they are faster (because some of them aren't) or that they may or may not be sharper, but because I simply do not like using zooms.
