What focal length do you use most often use? not to seem argumentative but its the FOV that's equivalent, not the FL. I'm not saying you don't know that, just clarifying. Scott Evans Photography

I let my son use the 17-40 and all I took was an 85 f1.8 and my 1DM2 and wow was I surprised at how effective that one tiny lens was. I kept thinking I'd need a zoom there but that just wasn't the case. For sports, I'm all about the 300mm prime (except for hoops) so slowly but surely, I think I too, may need to enter a 12 step PLA program now. Scott Evans Photography

This makes me a little nervous, but I could use the money to close on a house. Anybody regret getting rid of their standard zoom and having 35mm be their widest lens? Solo87 wrote in post #10110596 I sold my 450D with the kit lens to fund for a 40D and start my prime collection. Well, I recently got into shooting at a local club and found myself having to borrow a kit lens because the 35mm wasn't wide enough when it came to group shots. Do I regret losing the kit lens, sure, but it just gave me a reason to get the 17-55 2.8 which should be here next week. ![]() He is shooting a 5D2, so 35mm is much wider for him. It would be more like shooting a 20 or 21mm on a 40D. Unless You are shooting landscapes, the 35mm should be wide enough on the 5D2.

Really like mine, I get sharp photos using it even with the 2x extender. Foxy, you have swayed me, the statement about the 2x extender was what I needed!

I am already thinking about going primetime as I really want that nice creamy bokeh and sharpness you all love. I was wondering how many of you would make this switch? Sell 24-105 f4 IS 70-200 f4 IS Buy 35L 85 1.8 135L or 200 2.8 I am assuming most will say make the switch to primes considering this is a prime lovers thread but wanted to get some opinions on this. I am getting into portraiture, landscapes and street photography with a sprinkle of zoo/animal photography. Thanks! I have a 35L, Sigmalux 50, 135L, 15/2.8 fish, 105/2.8 macro, all of which I love dearly, but there's simply no way I'm getting rid of the 24-105. It's far, far too versatile/useful, particularly paired with the 5DII. 5DII | 300D | 30D IR | 17-40L | 24-105L IS | 70-200/2.8L IS | 100-400L IS | 15 FE | 35L | 50/1.8 mk I | 135L | Sigmalux 50/1.4 | Sigma 105/F2.8 Macro | C/Y Planar 50/1.4 | C/Y Distagon 35/2.8
