Well IT'S HERE! The friendly UPS guy came bright and early at 9:00am and dropped it off. Next day air rocks!

First impressions:

Compared to my old non-IS lens, the overall build is much nicer. The rubber zoom and focus rings are made with a nicer material from what I can tell, and the turning action is dampened nicer, almost like my 17-40. The IS is PHENOMENAL. I never knew what I was missing, the 4 stop compensation is unbelievably helpful for this focal length. I can shoot at 1/20 200mm and it's as if I'm shooting at 1/320. The IS is a little noisy, but it's not a big deal. The switchgear is different than the non-IS, the recessed switches are easier to use and can't be accidentally bumped. It is also heavier than the non-IS. Not a huge increase, but enough for me to notice it.

Took a couple quick test shots around the house. I have to run some errands now, but I'll post up more shots later with 100% crops.

Temporary duck shot until it gets warmer : /

The noisey IS bothered me at the beginning, but I got used to it. Great lens! Have fun with it.

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

I haven't used mine is awhile. It was the first lens I bought and I remember the wow factor.

I coincidently pulled it out tonight while I was shooting portraits. It was after I had finished... hmmm. haven't used the 70-200 in awhile. Looking at the images, all shot at f4, I felt the same wow as when I first got it. It is a superb piece of glass.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I'm picking up my 70-200 f/2.8L non-IS next week but I'm almost wondering if the f/4 IS would have been better. I do shoot a lot of sports though, so the f/2.8 will probably come in handy. Gonna give it a month or so and see how my shots are turning out then I may swap it for the f/4 IS if I feel they aren't sharp enough.

Congrats on the purchase. The images look amazing!
